Luke 8:53-55 - And they began laughing at Him, knowing that she had died. He, however, took her by the hand and called, saying, "Child, arise!" And her spirit returned, and she got up immediately;…" NASU
This was Jairus' 12 year old daughter being attended to by Jesus. She had died or in other words her spirit had departed from her body. The definition of death is "separation" and her spirit had separated from her body. When we die our spirits will depart or separate from our bodies. This family was blessed to be able to have Jesus come to their home and resurrect her. He is the One who has the power over life and death. He displays His power by commanding her to arise or in other words He commanded her spirit to return to her body.
When we die and our spirits separate from our bodies, life as we know it will be finished. Here is how the Apostle Paul wrote about death: 2 Corinthians 5:6-8 - So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. NKJV If you are a person who believes in Jesus Christ and has accepted His free gift of Eternal Life when you die your spirit will depart from your body and your spirit will be present with the Lord forever, according to the Word of God. John 11:25-26 - Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?" NASU
One of the greatest things that can happen to us is to die in the Lord. The Apostle John stated it this way in Revel. 14:13 - And I heard a voice from heaven, saying, "Write, 'Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on!'" NASU If you die in the Lord God's Word says you are blessed. Although, we have to die physically or our spirit separates from our physical body our spirit will live on eternally with Jesus Christ. Let me say it another way: when your spirit departs to be with Jesus you are promised eternal life. If your spirit departs and isn't going to be with Jesus you are promised eternal death or in other words eternal separation from God.
I hope that you have confessed Jesus to be the Lord of your life. Here is what the Apostle Paul had to say about it: Romans 10:9-11 - "…if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, "WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED." NASU You may have suffered a lot of disappointments in this life, but there is absolutely no reason to be disappointed in the next life. The promise is if you believe in Jesus you will not be disappointed. Think On This: Heaven is a state of thankfulness for having received what we didn't deserve, and for not receiving what we did deserve.
