Lessons We Can Learn From God's Conversation With Satan

Job 1:9-12 - Then Satan answered the LORD, "Does Job fear God for nothing?  "Have You not made a hedge about him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. "But put forth Your hand now and touch all that he has; he will surely curse You to Your face." Then the LORD said to Satan, "Behold, all that he has is in your power, only do not put forth your hand on him." So Satan departed from the presence of the LORD. NASU

• Job Feared God 

The Hebrew word for "fear" is "yare" and its meaning is "to revere or have reverence for" and this describes Job perfectly. He reverenced the Lord God Almighty.

Now just so we are clear here Job is living a good life, a godly life and he is showing his reverence for the Lord to the point that Satan, (aka - the adversary) accuses him by asking the question to God, "Does Job fear You for nothing?" 

• Satan Accuses Job 

Satan is saying, "In other words, the only reason Job honors You/God, or fears You/God is because You/God have blessed him in many ways and You have built a hedge around him so that none of his possessions can be taken away from him. God, if You take away what Job has I guarantee You he will curse You to Your face. "
 
There my friends is what Satan, the devil does best. He accuses us of serving God only because we have been blessed by God. If God would stop blessing us Satan has gone on record saying we will curse God to His face.  
 
In the book of Revelation 12:10 it says, "Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God day and night.
 
John is talking about the devil in this passage of scripture. He has always been and he always will be the accuser of God's children. If you can say God has blessed you then you should think the devil has probably lied about you to God. He has told God the only reason you fear, love, honor, and serve the Lord is because of all the blessings God has given to you.
 
He has probably accused God of building a hedge around us to protect us and if God took all our blessings away we would curse God to His face. 

• Why We Have A Hedge 

Now I can not say unequivocally that we have a "hedge" around us, but if we do I know why it is there. It is there because of the "Grace of God". Grace is getting something we don't deserve and I am sure we all would agree we don't deserve to have a "hedge" of protection from God around us. 

• Why Bad Things Happen To Good People 

If you have ever wondered why bad things happen to "good people" this passage of scripture may contain your answer.
 
Bad things happen to good people because there is an evil being in this world trying desperately to make us look bad in the eyes of God. Satan wants to take away the blessings of God from us and in so doing he wants us to get mad at God, question God's actions, accuse God of not being fair, and even curse God.
 
I would like to say this to my readers.
 
If God has allowed something to be taken away from you that you considered a blessing from God then you need to know God has an enormous amount of faith in you. He has told Satan you can take what you want but you can not kill him/her. (When you read a little further you will see Satan took away Job's children, his wealth and his health.)
 
God has placed a wager on you and the wager is "this child loves me and he/she will not curse Me".  God believes in you.
 
Think About These:
 
A person's faith is not judged by what he says about it, but by what he does with it when tested.
 
All men need a faith that will not shrink when washed in the waters of affliction and adversity.
